Denmark state review at the 78th CEDAW Session

IWRAW Asia Pacific is an NGO which supports the CEDAW Committee and OHCHR in facilitating participation of women’s groups/NGOs in the CEDAW review process.

The 78th CEDAW session is scheduled to take place from 15 to 25 February 2021. The session will take place virtually and include the online review of Denmark. All other state party reviews previously scheduled to take place during the 78th session have been postponed to the 79th session.

NGOs therefore have an opportunity to impact Denmark’s review session and therefore gender equality policies at country level. A note on NGO participation is available in English, French and Spanish.

Submission of shadow reports

The deadline for submission of shadow reports for the online review of Denmark will be Monday 25 January 2021. Submissions must be sent to cedaw@ohchr.org with a copy to iwraw-ap@iwraw-ap.org. Reports are to be submitted as a Word document to OHCHR at cedaw@ohchr.org, with a copy to IWRAW Asia Pacific. (Bearing in mind the UN’s green policy, hard copies of reports should be avoided if possible.) Our website provides guidelines for writing shadow reports, including reports focusing on specific thematic areas.

As you prepare your shadow report, please refer to the List of Issues and Reply to the List of Issues for Denmark.

Engaging with the CEDAW Committee at the review

NGOs which submit shadow reports for Denmark will also have the opportunity to present oral statements to the CEDAW Committee at the informal meeting with NGOs on Thursday 18 February 2021. The timing and logistical details of this meeting are still to be confirmed. We are also looking into the possibility of arranging a remote ‘lunchtime briefing’ by NGOs for the CEDAW Committee.

Please get in touch with us if you are preparing a shadow report or planning on preparing one for Denmark’s CEDAW review. Please also share this information widely with others in your network who may be interested in participating in Denmark’s CEDAW review.
